From my previous blog posts, I shared that I am looking for a new laptop for me to use for the next 2-3 years. Well, I did some research and I’ve finally narrowed down my choices to two:
1. Lenovo Thinkpad T410/T510 ~ US$1,894.00

- Intel Core i5-540M
- Windows 7 Pro 64
- Nvidia 3100M 256MB with AMT
- 8GB DDR3
- 2.0MP Camera
- 320GB 7200 RPM Hard Disk
- 9 cell 2.8Ah Li-Ion Battery
- 14.1 WXGA+ TFT, w/ LED Backlight for the T410
- 15.6″ HD+ Anti-Glare Display with LED Backlight for the T510
2. Dell Studio XPS 16 ~ US$1,879.00

- Intel Core i5-520M
- Windows 7 Pro 64
- ATI Mobility RADEON® HD 4670 – 1GB
- 6GB DDR3
- 2.0MP Camera
- 500GB 7200 RPM Hard Disk
- 85 WHr 9-cell Lithium Ion Primary Battery
- Edge-to-Edge FullHD Widescreen 16.0 inch RGBLED LCD (1920×1080)
The laptops will be coming from the US. The warranties may not apply here but there are service centers in Manila, Singapore and Hong Kong.
I have experienced both Lenovo (IBM) and Dell laptops before and based on experience, both have their fair share of components that breakdown after the first year of use like battery packs not charging, WiFi cards not being able to connect to access points and a few creaks and squeaks here and there.
I know that any of those laptops will be a huge boost/upgrade in terms of performance since I’ll be coming from a Dell Latitude D630 with a Core 2 Duo T7100 processor, 2GB of RAM and 160GB of hard disk space which I have been using for 2 and a half years already.
So what do you think? 😀
